World Cup news:
Voodoo strikes vs. Vuvuzela

VuvuzelaAnybody out there who´s not annoyed about the vuvuzela drone (A what?)? Here´s a Studio One file that filters out the vuvuzela sound from the audio signal. So just connect your tv to your audio device and monitor the signal using the Voodoo-vs-Vuvuzela.song file (included in the download) and enjoy the game!

DownloadThe .zip contains:
“Voodoo-vs-Vuvuzela.song” and  ”Voodoozela.wav” to test the result.

Just need the FX chain used to filter out the vuvuzelas?
Download it here!

The result

TV audio signal incl. the vuvuzela drone

The filtered signal

Want to know how it works?

  • Use a tuner to find out which note the vuvuzelas play
    (They play B flat / A#)
  • Check the musical note frequency (Here´s a list)
  • Use an Equalizer (in this case the ProEQ) to filter out those frequencies.

Someone please stop the horns! I tried to give the World Cup a chance, but I’d even turn off the Superbowl if there was the same annoying background noise.

Check out this free plug-in: http://www.vuvux.com
Apparently that one doesn’t use an EQ and leaves the background noise and commentary untouched. EQing really messes up the overall sound as you can hear it in the voodoo one example.

The Vuvuzela, just when you though kazoos were the most annoying “musical instruments”

I’m not – I’m just wondering why people are still messing around with notch filters when a better solution is already available.

Actually there is documentation, but in Chinese. You can download the datasheet of the TM1638 on the manufacturer’s website (titanmec.com). Timing diagrams are a universal language, and in case of doubt automatic translation usually works well with Chinese.
